Lahore Blasts, 30 Dead

In the latest wave of terrorist attacks, at least 30 people were killed and 250 injured when three suicide bombs ripped through a Shia procession in Pakistan’s cultural city of Lahore.Three back to back blasts hit the Yaum-E-Ali Juloos. The blasts caused 18 people died and more than 4o people injured.

30 Dead And 250, Injured Lahore Suicidal Blasts

In the latest wave of terrorist attacks, at least 30 people were killed and 250 injured when three suicide bombs ripped through a Shia procession in Pakistan’s cultural city of Lahore.

Lahore’s Executive District Officer (Health) Fayyaz Ranjha confirmed death of 30 people in the blasts, adding that 250 injured were brought to several hospitals. SP City Faisal Gulzar said that the first two blasts were suicide hits and the nature of third blast was still uncertain.

Terror group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the blasts, Xinhua reported. The group was founded in 1996 in Jhang city of Punjab province.

The first blast occurred near Karbala Gamay Shah in the Lower Mall area while the second and third blasts were near Bhatti Chowk, just a few paces away.Lahore Commissioner Khusro Pervez told reporters that the ages of both suicide attackers were between 15 and 18 years.

Angry mobs pelted stones at the security officials and media crews. They torched the building of the Lower Mall police station and also set two vehicles on fire.

The law and order situation worsened following the blasts. Police had to resort to aerial firing to disperse the mobs.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tareen said that the first blast occurred when a suicide bomber blew himself up on being intercepted by a security official.

“Contingents of paramilitary forces have been called in to control the situation”, he said.

Firing on a similar congregation in Karachi had left four people injured while several others received minor injuries in the stampede that followed.

According to Hindu mythology, Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe and one of the trinity of Gods, the other two being Lord Brahma, the Creator and Lord Shiva, the Destroyer.

Lord Vishnu is said to have taken birth as a human being to destroy the evil King Kansa who ruled over 5000 years ago.

Janmashtami is celebrated on two consecutive days, the day when Krishna was born, and the day when his father Vasudeva brought him to Gokul.

Rihanna wax statue unveiled at Madame Tussauds

A wax statue of Rihanna was unveiled in Washington at Madame Tussauds with her red headed counter part close by. The wax statue of the singer in a black lace corset, fitted jacket, pants and black heels was placed Tuesday in the museum, reports dailystar.co.uk.

A spokesperson for the museum has confirmed the star got a sneak peek of the statue last week and gave her final approval saying she “absolutely loved” her look-alike.

The singer follows “Glee” star Jane Lynch and Michael Jackson as the museum’s most recent waxwork members.

Nike held a press conference this morning in New York to unveil the 2010 Nike Pro Combat uniforms, and the latest worst-kept secret in Virginia Tech football was revealed: the Hokies will sport all-black uniforms Monday night when they kick off at FedExField against the Boise State Broncos.These new uniforms, which are supposed to be 37% lighter, have been made for Alabama, Boise State, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon state, Pitt, TCU, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

Some changes have not received a warm welcome; take for example the Gators Nike Pro Combat uniform, which is heavy on alligator skin.  This is a detail that distances from a more traditional design for football teams.

Other uniforms that have received notable changes are the Buckeyes uniform which puts them a red helmet not used since the 60s, and the inclusion of black in the Hokies uniform, a color they have not used in a century!

The prize for lead actor in a comedy series went to Jim Parsons for this role in “The Big Bang Theory”, while “Nurse Jackie’s” Edie Falco was named best lead actress in a comedy series. Kyra Sedgwick of “The Closer” was named best dramatic actress, while Bryan Cranston of “Breaking Bad” was the best actor in a drama.

The TV musical Glee gained some joy at the star-studded ceremony, with Jane Lynch getting the supporting comedy actress award and Ryan Murphy winning the comedy directors’ trophy.

The 2010 hurricane tracker shows Hurricane Earl coming up the east coast, dangerously close to the southern coast of New England, and could affect the area going into the weekend. Rhode Islanders should be watching weather forecasts at this point, and be ready to take precautions if necessary.The storm reached a category 1 classification on Sunday while Earl was 150 miles east of the islands. Currently, the highest sustained winds are sitting at around 85 miles per hour with some higher gusts. It will be heading west-northwest at 14 MPH.

Warnings are in effect for several different island chains in the Atlantic Ocean, including the British Virgin Islands. A hurricane watch and tropical storm warning have been issued in Puerto Rico as well.

The storm is expected to strengthen over the course of the next two days, and will become a potentially dangerous hurricane.Earl will bring between three and five inches of rain to the Leeward Islands, with as much as 8 inches possible in some areas. Puerto Rico could receive anywhere between four and six inches of rain, with as much as 12 inches being possible.

Emmy winners 2010 List Revealed On Sunday

The list of the Emmy winners 2010 Revealed on Sunday.The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held in Los Angles at Nokia Theatre and for the first time in the history of Emmy, the awards aired like coast to coast.

HBO mini series “The Pacific” led the show with total 24 nominations and Glee managed to earn 19 nominations and “Mad Ma” earned 17 nominations.

Aaron Paul from the drama “Breaking Bad” managed to get his first ever Emmy Award. Aaron Paul was nominated for the supporting role in a drama.

Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory” won the best actor award in a comedy by defeating Alec Baldwin and Tony Shalhoub.

Edie Falco from “Nurse Jackie” won forth Emmy award of her career.

Eric Stonestreet also won his first ever Emmy Award for his role in “Modern Family” as the best supporting role in a comedy series.

Mad Man received the best drama of the year award for the fourth time on the other side, possibly the biggest upset; Modern Family defeated Glee to win the award.
